HVAC System Inspection and Preventive Maintenance
In 2021, preventive maintenance is more important than ever. Unfortunately, there is no blanket answer to fit every scenario and building type. The current scientific research states that, in general, disinfection of mechanical systems is not likely necessary.
Since systems have not operated in regular fashion over the last year, most operating with partial loads for an extended period of time, ASHRAE recommends addressing HVAC systems as if this were the first day of operation, following ASHRAE/ACCA Standard 180-2018, Standard Practice for Inspection and Maintenance of Commercial Building HVAC Systems.

Columbus Benchmarking Ordinance
Some municipalities have started to require building owners to report data on building size, energy usage and utility bills. One municipality that has adopted this effort is the City of Columbus. The goal of the required benchmarking is for building owners to make better decisions about managing their energy and water usage to maximize efficiency.
Benchmarking using the EPA’s Energy Star Portfolio Manager for commercial buildings over 100,000 sqft within Columbus, Ohio is required beginning June 1st, 2021. Reporting for buildings over 50,000 sqft require reporting beginning June 1st, 2022.
